Cave painting, small sculptures, jewelry and processed objects are known in different parts of the world. Lascaux and Altamira are famous European examples, but they do not mark the beginning of art on the entire planet. Animal images often use the irregularities of the rock as part of the volume.
Looking deeper
The purpose of such objects cannot always be established: hypotheses about ritual, memory and learning require archaeological data. In the Neolithic, settled life and new ways of organizing life were accompanied by changes in architecture and the subject environment. Don't turn a modern impression into a proof of an ancient meaning.
